Jobs

Jobs are important for maintaining livelihoods. Sustained and inclusive economic growth can create decent and fulfilling jobs for all, drive progress, and improve living standards. Jobs in agrifood systems extend beyond agricultural production to account for a wide share of the economy, including manufacturing and services sectors. From farm workers and farmers who own their land to transporters, processors, distributors, and to those working on inputs (genetics, fertilizers, pesticides) and in tourism, agrifood systems directly employ over 1 billion people from farm to fork. And they contribute to the economic livelihood of another 3 billion people. However, it’s difficult to count exactly how many people work in agriculture since many of those jobs are seasonal and performed by contractors.

About

The Greening platform is produced by The Lexicon with support from the World Food Programme. The World Food Programme is scaling resilience in the Tandou Valley and other communities across the five countries in the Sahel. The Resilience Monitoring and Measurement framework shows positive outcomes in ecological restoration, food and nutrition security, economic empowerment, access to social services, reduction of daily hardships, and social cohesion.
