Nature-based solutions use the power of natural ecosystems to tackle environmental and societal challenges. Rather than relying solely on engineered infrastructure, they work with nature—through reforestation, wetland restoration, sustainable agriculture, and coastal habitat protection—to restore ecological balance. By tapping into the inherent functions of ecosystems, these approaches help curb climate change, boost biodiversity, purify water and air, reduce flood risk, and support resilient, sustainable livelihoods.
In the marine realm, regeneration and fisheries management apply the same principle: let nature lead. Marine regeneration focuses on reviving degraded habitats—coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows—whose health underpins marine biodiversity and essential ecosystem services. Effective management restores the productivity of fisheries, enhances coastal protection, and strengthens the long-term sustainability of ocean resources.
About
The Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries platform is produced by The Lexicon with support from the Asian Development Bank. SCMF regenerates ecosystems, improves fisheries management and surveillance, and develops community businesses towards more sustainable fisheries. It develops sustainable resilient coastal and marine fisheries resources, resulting in recovered fish stocks and better coastal economy
Team
Lexicon of Impacts is based on the Ecological Benefits Framework (EBF). This new paradigm provides a foundational architecture to radically transform global carbon, biodiversity, and ecological benefits markets. Coordinating financial institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, companies, and catalytic capital will bring attention to—and help create—a shared pathway for accelerated solutions, providing economic support for the people and projects that need it most.
